SafetyCarbon Monoxide Monitor
Continuous monitoring wherever fuel is burned.
Carbon monoxide has no color, no smell and no taste. The early symptoms of exposure — headache, nausea, drowsiness — are easy to mistake for a winter bug.
Anything that burns fuel indoors can produce it: a gas furnace, a water heater, a gas range, a fireplace, an attached garage. It is not a sign of a badly maintained house so much as a risk that comes with combustion, which is why a cracked heat exchanger is treated as a shutdown condition rather than a repair to schedule.
Install detectors on every level of the house and near sleeping areas, test them, and replace them on the manufacturer’s schedule — the sensors have a finite life and a detector that is fifteen years old can no longer be relied on.
If an alarm sounds, get everyone outside first and call from outside. Do not go back in to investigate.

Including near sleeping areas.
We test them as part of our heating maintenance visit.

Do this first, before anything else.
Do not go back in to investigate.
We give anything that burns fuel indoors the same attention as a furnace: venting checked, safety controls proven, and carbon monoxide detection on that level.
